I think keeping your child off school is extreme. If they aren’t prepared by now, then they are never going to be. Probably best for their state of mind to keep things as normal as possible.

I would expect schools to take a very dim view of it too. It would be classed as unauthorised absence.
I remember this being (apparently) quite a popular thing years ago (my information coming from hanging out on here - I can't think of a single person in my 'real life' social circle who did it). But that was before the regulations on absence were toughened up. Whereas the school should be okay with using the appropriate authorised absence code for the actual exam(s) and the odd daytime school visit, as Tinkers says,just keeping one's DC off 'for the duration' would be unlikely to go down as anything other than Unauthorised.

If they are at an independent primary / prep, perhaps it is different?
