Interesting reflections, @SVK. Living just outside KE catchment areas (Sandwell) I remember well the concern over whether the required scores for the Sutton Coldfield and Walsall schools would soar beyond our reach (DD took the test in 2021.)
At the same time, my friends in Edgbaston had to come to terms with their preferred options of Camp Hill and Five Ways being almost unachievable.
I suspect that moving some of the KEFW catchment area into KEHB/KEHB would cause even more uproar than the introduction of catchment areas five years ago. I believe all catchment children scoring 224+ have eventually got their place at KEFW each, and perhaps with the drop in birth rates, this won’t become a problem again for a while. However, the introduction of VAT on private school fees might increase the numbers taking the 11 plus.
The first intake since the catchment areas were introduced will be sitting their GCSEs in 2025. It will be very interesting to see whether there is a greater parity in results between the KE schools.
