@Unstoppable we only have one child so I don’t have anything to compare with, but the amount of homework DD gets at SCGSG (she’s in Y9) feels to me to be about right? Sometimes it feels as though she just gets home, does homework and goes to bed, but actually that’s misleading as she also does music practice, and some evenings and some weekends she has no time for homework so she has to fit it all into the other days.
She is very diligent and hates to have things on her to-do list, so she does sometimes get anxious when homework seems to be mounting up. However, that pressure is self-induced – we’ve never got the impression that the school is issuing dire warnings or putting the girls under a lot of pressure. She has never missed any homework or handed anything in late or been told it wasn’t of the required standard, so I don’t know how the school handles those things.
We have been pleased that she has had hardly any homework in the holidays, and exam week (late May) has been the week before half term, so half term itself has been a complete break. Our friends at Bishop Vesey had their exam week the week after half term, which seemed much worse to me!
I would say Y7 was quite light in terms of homework and it has increased slightly each year.
