Hello,
My son passed one 11+ exam (for a school that I liked) but missed the one he wanted by 1 mark.
His headteacher has said that he is definitely at 11+ standard and their data supports this (along with passing the other exam). He said he would fully support us in March.
My other issue is that my son has a lifelong medical conditions that he takes medication for that lowers his immune system. He requires access to the toilet. He is well at the moment but he does suffer with ongoing fatigue and other issues. Unlike most ten year olds he can not keep going and we often manage this by having quiet weekends and not overloading him with activities.
I had a hospital letter saying he would require extra time and toiled break. The LEA awarded toilet breaks but not extra time. I didn’t contest this as I just thought they must not award extra time. But the closer the exam came the more I realised that lots of kids have been awarded extra time for a variety of reasons. I know that generally they do like to reward one or the other but his disability requires both (is that discrimination if I did not contest it?)
Does this sound like we would have a reasonable ground for appeal? I am hoping he will be happy in March and allocated the other grammar school but I do feel like I have letter him down.
