Edmonton is nothing like Cockfosters or Winchmore Hill or even Enfield Town! Edmonton, on the side of the A10 where Latymer is situated, is substantially more crowded and poorer and, I suspect, neglected by the council. It's rougher and dirtier and there are more 'incidents'.
There are also lots of good points - it's diverse, it has great food places, and personally I like Edmonton Green market. The Turkish food is among the best in London! I like living there and I am happy for my child to walk to school BUT is not allowed have headphones or even get phone out. Child also told not to go to the park next door or Edmonton Green market alone unless with others. That probably would be asking for trouble - and yes, every year there are muggings of schoolchildren/other schools organising issues and yes, there was a (real) lockdown event the other week as there were people with knives outside the school. But I don't think anyone was stabbed and my child has not experienced any issues personally, other than the odd verbal comments from a neighbouring school. If there is an incident, I'll pick up myself.
I wouldn't go there if you are intending to drive your child to and from school for years or if you are planning on getting coaches etc. What will they do on concert days etc? Or sports fixture days? Your best bet is to visit the area and get a feel for it. Walk around. Get on the bus yourself. Nothing anyone says on the internet is a substitute for this.
But there are lots of happy children at Latymer who travel independently and lots of us do live in Edmonton and Enfield . Personally I'm not aware of coach pool arrangements but perhaps they exist.
