The thing to remember is that you’re not the only person who will be on a waiting list after first round, and you have no way of knowing how many people are above you, even when given a waitinglist number, because someone else may move into area either closer to the school, or higher up priority than your DC.
If you own another property (see school admission policy for how far away “doesn’t count” eg 50 miles): you will have to completely dispose of it for the new address to counts as permanent. Merely renting or buying may not be enough: ypu are likely to need further proof of residence.
Consider what any other children in the family need too, as im-year places at good primaries may be hard to come
by: when we moved mid-year due to job change, not schools, it took 9 months to get them
both into the same primary and was very disruptive….
it’s a heck of a gamble and impossible to predict, even if someone else may have done it…
