INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS • Sherrardswood School in WGC

Hello. Does anyone have a Senior child at Sherrardswood School in Welwyn? My son is bright but has a focus problem (pretty harmless but he fidgets a lot during lessons at school). He says he gets distracted easily by a few boys in his class causing low level disruptions. He does get easily distracted like that outside lessons too like extra curricular activities, but when he is placed in a smaller setting he progresses a lot more quickly than other children. He is year 3 and plans to prepare for 11+, but all schools we originally wanted for him seem to have a class size of 24 or more. It might be still too big for him. Also he gets distracted in a new setting, so he might not do well on exams too. But we just know state schools are too big for him.

We’re in WGC and Sherrardswood has a good repuration for being small size and able to cater to individual needs.

We don’t want an academic hothouse but we don’t want too easygoing either. Somewhere between is nice where able and bright children will be pushed to their individual potential.

Sherrardswood’s website says it is non-selective, so I assume it doesn’t have any entrance exam. But if a child is able, do they push the child?

Also how small is a class size for Senior? How many forms per year?

I’d love to hear from people whose children actually go there about their experience and impressions!

Thank you in advance.
