Hi Sann2902

My son is Y11 at Marling. He has been happy at Marling and has made a good group of friends. It's a good school. The subjects he wants to do at A'level are all available at Marling and he likes the teachers (for the most part) so he is going to stay there for 6th Form.

My older daughter was at SHS too and stayed there for 6th Form.

It varies from year to year but Marling does have quite a lot of girls in 6th form. I don't think it's a 50/50 but DD and DS's guess was maybe heading towards 60/40? Marling should be able to tell you what the average split is. In my older daughter's year group she said approx 10-12 girls moved from SHS to Marling and they all seemed to be happy at Marling although one student did switch back to SHS.

I haven't heard anything negative about Marling 6th Form and it seems quite a popular choice for girls. Marling has more girls join their 6th form than SHS has boys join theirs but that might be due to more SHS students staying on?

I don't know if your daughter is already at SHS (you mentioned they are at an all girls grammar) but I think their 6th Form is really good. My dd said their Eng Lit and Politics teachers are particularly good. My son says Marling's Eng Lit dept is good but he has no experience of their Politics dept.

If your daughter is wanting more of a balance of girls and boys then Marling definitely is closer to that than SHS.

Not sure if I'm actually telling you anything helpful  but I definitely wouldn't have any worries about a dd joining Marling 6th Form with regard to 7-11 being all boys.
p.s If you look at Marling Social Media accounts like FB it might help give you a feel of the place and you will see there a lot of girls in 6th Form.
