Hi

I suspect it might depend on where you live & what your local schools are like? Also whether your local schools stream / set by ability & at what point? You can see the various school performances on league tables...progress 8 might be worth looking at too.

My DD actually likes her bus journey. She has 'bus friends' & uses it to chill down from the day...(depends on how long / reliable it is too)

I also think its hard for children to make decisions on what they don't know /is unfamiliar. We chose our daughter's primary school. She had some input into her secondary school. Sixth form was lead by her.....Might be worth going to an open day at both & letting your son see / feel which one he prefers? I took my DD to both grammars & locals & she came away with preferences that we very clear she would have to work / take a test for to go there....it provided the motivation to go to a grammar.

My final words would be go to where you think your child will be happiest as a happy child thrives. I would say that they all make new friends on day 1 (and many times over throughout school as they change groups / pick exam subjects etc.

Hope that helps....
