I don't have the answer to that, but as I understand, the creative writing is about reaching a certain standard only, so as long as he's reasonably good at writing, he should be fine. It's separate from the rest of the English part, so doesn't contribute to the total score. I suppose it's because they don't want kids who are fab at maths/SPAG but genuinely can't write at all.
